New Math Unit ~ Do you think we’ll MEASURE up?

How do I use this thing? :)

Today we started an new unit for math.  The grade 7 and 8′s will be studying measurement.  In this first unit of measure we will be looking at metric conversions, area of a rectangle (review), area of a triangle (3 ways), area of paralellogram and area of a circle.

To start off our unit we spent some time working on our measuring skills.  We measured things in class and outside ~ enjoying a beautiful fall day.  Even jumping in some leaves for good measure – Ha!

Does your class do fun things at the beginning of new units?  Let me know what they are, just reply with a comment!

Let's measure the math board!

A girl named emma commented on my moms post I agree with what she says all the way :)

I agree that bullying is a severe problem all around the world, and it needs to stop. At my school, we are expected to ideally fit the 10 profile attributes;-Reflective

    -Open-minded

    -Inquirer

    -Caring

    -Communicator

    -Principled

    -Knowledgeable

    -Balenced

    -Risk-taker

    -Thinker

If all of the students at my school were completely perfect and could proudly present them as all of these attributes, there would never be a problem. But nobody’s perfect. So it is still important we are aware what we say and do to make sure we don’t hurt anybody physically or emotionally. We recently had a presentation and at one point it said something like this (I don’t remember it exactly as it was in the presentation)…
Be careful of your thoughts…..they will turn into your words
Be careful of your words……they will turn into your actions
Be careful of your actions……they will turn into your habits
Be careful of your habits…..they become your character
Be careful of your character…..it will become YOU

I thought it is also important to think about this (it’s also taken from the presentation)…
    Who are you?
Or more importantly, who do you want to be?
