Miss H’s Class Questions about Blogging – 2011
Mr.Carson’s class we looked at your blog and some of your students blogs as well. Here are the questions that we came up with:

Is blogging time consuming? Well sure but really I find it fun
Blogging depending on the post is time consuming for a variety of reasons and also fun, it’s time consuming because if your writing about a very big topic the post is going to be big and take a long time to write but also at the same time if it’s interesting and it can be very fun.Personally me I like writing posts on about everything some long and some short but I have fun writing them because I get to expand om my ideas and what I think.

Here are the answers to some of your questions.
Some ways to personalize your blog include changing the theme of the blog, putting in a header photo, and adding widgets. Widgets are the items that go on the side of the blog. –>
You can a widget by googling the type of widget you want (ex. COUNTDOWN WIDGET FOR BLOG) and go to the site and follow the instructions there to get the widget. Or, click on the GET WIDGET button on a widget on someone else’s blog.To get the bookshelf widget, you need to set up an account at http://www.shelfari.com and add books onto your shelf there, then add the widget.

This the answer to how do you get a bookshelf with the books on it? As well as how to add widgets.Well how you do that is, there is a site called shelfari (www.shelfari.com) and you can make a free account. With that account you can search a book that you might of read or want to read or is reading it and click add to shelf and then you have it!! The shelf on our blog is the widget, to add the widget you go to your blog, login, go to your dashboard, click on apperance then click on widgets. You then have to click on the little box called text and drag it into one of the sidebars. You then have to go back to shelfari and click on GET WIDGET! and customize it and everything…after that you hit done and it will give you an HTML code, you then copy and paste that into the text box and click the button that says save. Then you can go to your blog and check out your new widget! ( you can also edit the widget as much as you want

How do you add a pet?
To add a pet first go to this link,

Then to select what type of animal you want use the “Animal” section.
To chose the name enter a name under the “Pet Name” section.
To chose the adopter (the person who’s name will apear on the widget) use the “Addopter Name” section and enter the name.
To choses the colour select a colour from the “colour” section.
to change the size of the widget use the ” width and hight” selectors above the widget.
After that press “Get Widget” then press the “copy” button beside the long code.
to put in on your blog past the code under a “text” widget on your dashboard under “widjets” then press “save” and the widget will be on your blog.
(also click the “more” button at the bottem right corner of the widget to feed and play with your pet by clicking on the item.)
that’s all you need to do to add a pet to your blog!

Yes, blogging is very time comusing, you have to pick a topic for your next post, then make the introduction, the body and then a good ending making the reader want to comment. The best way to write a blog would to be yourself in your writing and your blog design, don’t try and be someone your not. To comment you would click on the posts name then it would take you to the post. You would then scroll down and enter your information in the slots. For ex: I would put Bayleigh in the ‘Name’ slot. One thing you have to do when your commenting is put in the correct security question in the slot. Just in case you get it wrong I copy my Comment before I submit it.

Hello Miss H’s class one of your questions was “Do you blog even if it is not about school?” Of course you can for example you can show your hobbies or what you did on the weekend anything like that. On my blog http://jakemmtpleasant.edublogs.org/ I talk alot about hockey because I’m intereasted in it so it doesn’t all have to be about school.Another one of your Questions “Is it enjoyable or is bloging boring” Well I know alot of my classmates and my self we love having blogs because we can write about anything we want so yes bloging is enjoyable.

I answered the questions I could . . .
1) You can personalize your blog by changing the theme, adding widgets, etc. Depending on the theme, you can also customize the themes theme. But you have to use the one that says ‘Custom colour Palet!’
4) It doesn’t cost money unless your teacher got the Pro Version, which she probably didn’t.
10) Blogging isn’t really time consuming. You just have to prioritize your time. That way it can fit into your schedule.
11) Blog whenever you possibly can because people wont want to look at the same posts over and over. They will get bored and stop going to your blog.
15) Yeah, you can post about things other than school. It’s completely up to you! It’s your blog.
Hi I am Jacob Davis from Mr. Carson’s class and I am going to answer some of your class’s questions. If you think that blogging is really boring then you are vary wrong. Blogging can be about anything that you think of. You can put your on videos on your blog. You can put pictures on your blog, as long as it is not personal or privet and also appropriate for school. You can’t forget that anyone can see your blog in the whole world.
If you are wondering what your blog should be about? If you are, than the best thing to write about is what you like. So if you like horses then you can put a page about horses. Like I said before a blog can be about anything.
If you do not know how to do stuff like comment or post pictures, videos, pod castes, and don’t know how to make a blog post. Then are teacher has made a “How To” page and it has some really valuable info. Then you can visit

Regarding your questions about the various widgets on our blogs, I have a few answers.
Most of the widgets you asked about like the pet, countdown, and weather widgets can be found on Widget Box It is very cool because it has hundreds of widgets that can be work to make your blog better. This site is free without an account unless you would like to go pro which will cost you money. The bookshelf widget can be found on an online book site: Shelfari. For this you will need to make an account and you can add books to your bookshelf and then put your very own shelf into your blog to showcase your favourite books.
If you don’ know how to put widgets on your blog you can take a look at the Edubloger User Guide. It is a very good source to check back to if you have any troubles while blogging.

Can We Blog Even if it has Nothing to do With School?????
Yes you can, Mr. Carson want use to write about anything you like well that’s are class your teacher would have to decide that i don’t see why not. We have got some kids in our class that like to make these lego movies and they put those on there blogs. Or jake.m he like’s hockey a-lot and i know i have heard people him ask question’s about. And if you would enjoy it then i think its a great thing to do some people really enjoy reading things like that.
To get pictures in your post, you have to go to your dashboard, click on add an image, and go to select files, find your picture you made/found, and click on it. Press what size you want, left, right, or center. When you’re done that click insert into post. Then press publish post.
You personalize your blog by going to your dashboard.
Blogging is definitely time consuming. It really amuses me actually, to see how great my class can write post, and even comments.
You can blog whenever you want, but I know me, and my other classmates post very regularly, and that’s actually a pretty good idea post regularly to keep your readers interested, and keep them up to date
Blogging is kind of both, boring and sometimes it can be very enjoyable, it’s enjoyable for me when I’m writing something that I like, and it’s boring when I’m not writing something I like/enjoy.

I noticed a few of the questions you asked will quickly be answered if you start, like asking, “What’s a Widget and how to get one?”. A simple question but I didn’t know what one was at the beginning of my blogging experience either, so in this comment I hope to answer a few of your questions.
Once you’ve started your blog you can go into the category appearance and there will be a subtitle widgets. Widgets are things that you add to your blog to make it better, so in short they’re attachments, you can get things from translators to pets. Some are supplied to you from the website but others you’ll have to find online and once you get it there very easy to add, just drag the widget you want to one of your sidebars.
There is no best ways to write a blog, they’re all unique and that’s what makes them good, because no two blogs are the same it makes it more interesting.
Commenting, to comment you simply click on the part of the post that says comment, sometimes it will below or above a post or even symbolized as a speech bubble but rather than that it’s pretty straight forward just type what you want to comment.
There are many ways to personalize your blog, you can change the background add custom widgets, pictures and unique posts. The background option is accessed in your dashboard under theme and you select the one you like. Widgets were explained above. Pictures are put into posts by writing posts, there will be an option that says add picture and you can add one from your computer or online, and posts, posts are made unique by the style of writing, what they’re about and the voice of the writer.

I’m Courtney, my class and I were told that we had to comment on your blog post and answer some questions you have for becoming a blogger! I’m going to answer “is it hard to start blogging?” and “is it enjoyable or is blogging boring?”
Is it hard to start blogging? Well in my opinion, not really, once you figure out how to do everything like “posting posts, adding widgets, and finding a theme…” it will be as easy as pumpkin pie! So over all I don’t think it’s hard to start blogging!
Is it enjoyable or is blogging boring? Everyone’s interests are different, but i think it’s enjoyable, it’s different and something new. Awesome way to learn in different ways or communicating with others!

Well for starters, blogging is very enjoyable and it is very easy to start a blog and custamize it to be your own. I don’t find blogging very time consuming but you should keep your blog updated with new posts new widgets and more!
It is very easy to personalize your blog. All you do is go to one of your posts or pages and click edit and it will bring up a new page. If you are on the easy admin, your custumization tools will be at the top. If you have the advanced admin then they will be on the side.
Adding a vurtual pet to your blog is very simple. Just go to someone elses blog that has a pet and press the get widget button. It will bring you to the website and you can choose a pet, it’s colour, it’s name and who adopted the pet. After you have to copy the code go to your widgets and get a text widget and add it to your sidebar. Next you paste the code in and save it then your pet is on your blog!
To add the weather is the exact same as adding a pet. Most widgets can be gotten from other people’s blogs.

Is it enjoyable or is blogging boring?
Well in my opinion blogging is the exact oppisite of boring! Blogging is really fun, espessially if you getto pick your own topics to blog about. I love changing my theme every once in a while because I like a change, widgets are fun too!
Does this cost any money?
Nah, blogging is fun and FREE, unless you get the pro version then I think it costs a bit of money but for bloggers who just blog for fun, and for school I don’t think we really need a pro version.
What made you want to start blogging?
Well, our teacher Mr. Carson made us start blogging I dont think anyone was really excited for it but when we got to know how to use it, it became funner
What’s the best way to write a blog?
The best way to write a blog is by blogging about stuff you know and about stuff you like, it gets boring if you blog about stuff you don’t really know, using humor in your posts and excitement is really efficent as well!
Is it hard to start blogging?
Not really no. When you first start I will admit I had some troubles figuring everything out, but with some help from y teacher and my class mates I got the hang of it and it became easier (:

If your asking what blogging is about? Our whole class knows exactly about what it is! I’ll answer some of the questions to help you and your class to become better bloggers!
So, you were asking if it cost any money? Well, no blogging doesn’t cost any money at all!
You also asked how to personalize it? If you wanted to personalize it all you have to do is make it like your personality, to write how you would write things to make it stand out! Also you could add a header that can make your personality stand out too!
If your wondering how to add a pet, countdown and weather, you could go to a random persons blog click on the get widget (if there is that button) then copy the HTML code, and past it in text which should be in the widgets coloum under Appereance.
The last question I’ll answer is that you asked if blogging is hard? In my opinion I think blogging is really easy! It’s simpal to get around and to add a bunch of simple stuff to add on it!! But thats just my opinion!

Ok let’s see, “Does this cost any money?” Well kind of yes if you want the advanced admin if you want that then yes if you don’t then you won’t need to. Mr. Carson was nice and paid for us to have the advanced admin. Ok another one let’s see “How do you comment?” Well after every post if you scroll down then you will see a box that says leave a comment if you are sighed in just click and type if not then you will have to do everything it says than wright the comment.

I think that blogging can be very time consuming but it depends I like putting time into blogging because I find it fun. I think I find it fun because I find it interesting how you can meat people on the complete opposite side of the world so easily. 1. I don’t really enjoy blogging because I don’t really like using the computer, I’d rather go outside or something like that.
2. Nothing made me want to blog, it was more like I had to start blogging. Like I said I would rather be outside and if it was up to me I wouldn’t have a blog and I don’t have face book, MSN, or a cell phone.
